If we continue to destroy our wetlands, we are not only losing valuable species, but we are also condemning our children and future generations to a world plagued by floods, biodiversity loss, and irreversible environmental damage. While I speak for the wetlands here in Navarre ( Belmont Drive ) Variance Application No. 2024-2024-38-V, this is a global issue that affects every community. The protection of wetlands worldwide is crucial for the stability of our ecosystem and the preservation of nature. Our wetlands in Navarre (Belmont Drive) and throughout Santa Rosa County are under threat from new developments that would destroy vital habitats for black bears, monarch butterflies, and other local wildlife. These wetlands are crucial not just for wildlife, but also for flood prevention and water filtration, benefiting the entire community.

These areas are home to diverse species, including turtles, frogs, flying squirrels, and many more. The list of animals that depend on these wetlands is too long to mention them all. The destruction of these habitats will push wildlife into our streets and neighborhoods, putting both animals and people at risk. Beyond that, wetlands naturally absorb stormwater and help prevent flooding. With existing flood issues in our area, losing these wetlands will lead to even more severe flooding and property damage.

Despite my concerns being ignored, I believe I am not alone in wanting to protect these wetlands and the wildlife that depend on them. Let our voices be heard! We urge the city and the county to halt new developments in Navarre, Santa Rosa County, and surrounding areas to protect these critical environments.
