Dear Supporters, disappointment on 13th May at the last meeting of North Sydney Council, I’m sad to say. While councillors spoke in favour of the Community Cycle Ramp, 6 out of 10 of them decided there was nothing they could do to prevent the folly of Transport’s Linear Ramp and so authorised the Council’s Chief Executive Officer to not seek agreement with Transport for NSW to lease the land, and instead submit a claim for compensation in accordance with the Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act for the land within Bradfield Park to be compulsorily acquired by TfNSW.

The contractor, Arenco, will aim to do more so called “preliminary works” leading ultimately to the destruction of Bradfield Park North and imposing a monorail like blight on the landscape which will resound down the ages, condemning all who supported and / or enabled it.

Bradfield Park is unique in that it was set up under a statutory Trust, the beneficiaries being the people of North Sydney and no such land has ever been compulsorily acquired in NSW. The attached letter, written to all councillors by an eminent community member, states that “as it presently stands, there is no claim by Transport for NSW which is valid or enforceable.” ( https://tinyurl.com/4scdw5ya )

We are seeking further advice as to the best way forward.

best wishes, Ian
