In addition to increasing attention on school bus concerns in Howard County, our initial Town Hall has helped in several ways:
1- As of September 26th, HCPSS is again communicating directly with families on Zum buses about any delays more than 15 minutes.
2- Families report improvements in students not being marked unexcused tardy/absent for bus delays.
3- Based on concerns described that too much of the Zum/HCPSS contract has been redacted, Neighbors for Buses signed a letter with the Maryland School Bus Contractors Association to better leverage support from the County Council and County Executive in obtaining additional public information from the contract about how taxpayer dollars are being utilized.
Please bring ANY transportation-related concerns to tonight's meeting. We are also specifically trying to get more input from:
1) Families are reporting that there are still transportation-related problems in the special education community, including lack of bus aides for some children. What are these continued problems and to what extent are they happening?
2) Many families are describing negative effects of bus loss this year. Can you describe some of these? What data can we collect on this in the community?
3) Sports schedules have been altered by bus delays and availability. How often are these happening? Which schools/sports are most affected?
