After 12-months of concerted lobbying and this petition of over 700 supporting signatures including your own, it's pleasing to announce that Bayside Council has acknowledged the benefits of leaving our Historical Society in a retail area, agreeing to keep its current location in historic Melrose Street FOR NOW. With plenty of reasons noted in the petition, one often raised is the need for SDHS to be seen and in the heart of a retail area. It is appalling to think that Bayside may have considered otherwise for whatever the reason, seriously letting down both volunteers and the community... AND compromising the well-being of a valuable and irreplaceable Bayside asset. We congratulate Councillors on their support, and the Sandringham Traders Association will continue to oppose any loss of village assets and the relocation of our SDHS to some inappropriate backwater. A big thank you to all who helped convince Bayside to see sense, and we can only hope this location will be made permanent. With that in mind, this petition will be left open.
