On 16 December 2025, at Council’s Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM), the pool petition — “Save Our Pool: Call on Council to Work With Our Community to Secure the $2 Million Needed” — was discussed and unanimously resolved to be received for further consideration.
The next step is for Council to address and respond to the request of the pool petition. Council may do so by:
- Preparing additional information for Council’s consideration; or
- Referring the matter to the CEO.
I will continue to keep you updated as this process progresses.
At the time the pool petition was submitted to Council, more than 2,600 people had signed either the handwritten or online petition. Of these, over 1,000 signatories met Council’s formal petition requirements by providing their full name, residential address, and email address. Councillors have been made aware of both figures so they can fully understand the breadth of community support when considering the petition.
In parallel with the pool petition, a community Working Group has been formed. This group is respectfully but passionately advocating for the community’s strong desire to see the indoor pool and gym in Port Fairy reopened as soon as possible. At the OCM, Councillors and the CEO agreed to meet with representatives of the Working Group to hear the community’s voice and to engage collaboratively on potential solutions to reopen the indoor pool and gym.
To stay informed about these efforts, please follow the Pool Community Group – Port Fairy Facebook page, and feel free to share it with friends and family.
