So many people came together to express concerns with the Planning Commission on March 10th. (Full discussion on the topic can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/live/7rJT4rX16L8?si=99yvpTFV6zwgMd9_ starting 9 minutes in.)

The maps used were misleading, not recognizing a creek crucial to wildlife or a recent approved residential development to add 114 houses boardering the land currently being proposed. Traffic studies showing  "no impact" and will stay the same- this is not accurate. Traffic is already terrible and will worsen with the 114 home addition and be unbearable with another 48 homes. This will lead to inevitable motions to widen the main roads and infringe on other residents homes in the future. Ultimately the Planning Commission stated growth is necessary and this will be a good change.

However, our main question is "who is this benefitting?" Yes, Johnson City needs homes, but they need to be affordable. The developer already said these houses would be above any reasonable rates (estimated $400k per plot). Yes, change is inevitable and growth is necessary to any city, but it's becoming more evident the land owner and developer are pushing to make revenue more than increase value for our city.

You can still play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our beloved community by signing this petition!

The proposal will move to City Commision for final approval. Let’s protect the beauty and integrity of Johnson City for generations to come. The next City Commission meeting is on April 2nd, 2026, at 6:00pm in the City Commission Chambers to consider the rezoning. Please join us in this vital cause to keep our land beautiful and protect our neighborhood!
