Happy New Year!

We enter 2025 with some trepidation, as this is the year that the BBC has earmarked to close down longwave broadcasting for good. Listeners to BBC Radio 4 Longwave today will have heard the BBC's celebration of 100 years of the much-loved Shipping Forecast. But without longwave radio, there would be no shipping forecast - and many more lives may have been lost at sea as a result.

No other broadcast medium can reach out to sea as far as longwave. The Shipping Forecast is therefore one of many reasons why longwave must be preserved for the future. Please read our latest update, on longwave and the Shipping Forecast, and encourage others to do the same! With enough signatures, we could save longwave this year - but we need as much support as we can get.
