Today, 5th February, marks 100 years since the BBC's first broadcast of the iconic 'pips' you can still hear each hour on Radio 4 and the World Service. However, this time signal is only accurate on FM and LW, due to the considerable delay required to encode digital broadcasts on DAB and online. Indeed, analogue radio remains the only way of listening to genuinely live news and sport.
