Delay the Switchover until at least 2030!
The self-imposed deadline set by the telecoms industry for all traditional landlines to be scrapped by January 2027 is fast approaching, and there is no chance of it being met without very serious safety risks for vulnerable customers. Over three million landlines remain to be switched over in the UK and the industry is finding it very difficult to locate and contact those who depend on their landlines for communications in an emergency. Also some switchovers require complex engineering work, including the tens of thousands of households not on the electricity grid.
In these circumstances, Silver Voices is now calling for the deadline for complete switchover to be delayed until at least 2030, on safety grounds.
