Save our homes & community! Oppose Nedlands rezoning & extension of the UWA-QEII Precinct

The issue

The shock proposal by the State government to establish an Improvement Plan allowing a State-led approach to the planning and development of the UWA-QEII precinct and extend this area to engulf Hollywood North will result in the loss of a large number of heritage houses, displace families from their homes and further destroy one of Perth’s few remaining character suburbs.

This is not the first time this area has been targeted. Only 3 years ago the re-zoning proposals in Local Planning Scheme No 3 caused significant stress and anxiety for local residents, threatening to destroy this thriving community.  The effects of this recent change in R-codes can already be seen throughout Nedlands with the demolition of a significant number of character houses, increases in traffic and loss of tree canopy for which the area is renowned.

Hollywood Primary is one of the states leading schools and this short sighted approach will have a long term detrimental effect on its surrounding community.

The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, on behalf of the WA Planning Commission, has only provided 7 days for the City of Perth, City of Nedlands and City of Subiaco to provide feedback on the proposal.

Rushing approval of this proposal is a case of the state government bullying local councils and is a land grab by the planning minister to pursue the excessive high-rise and infill agenda.

NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT!

We urge you to have a voice, stand up and be heard. Please sign this petition to show the government we value our homes and all that this local community has to offer.
