Over the course of the summer, Fairfield town officials have been working diligently in the background to clear all impediments to enable the sale of the Fairfield Community Theatre building. Mark Barnhart, Director of Community and Economic Development, and I have been in touch throughout the process and Mark confirmed with me just this morning that First Selectman Mike Tetreau has just signed a new town lease agreement with a waste hauler that enables the relocation of a trash compactor to a new location behind FTC, which clears the final impediment for the sale of the building that includes The Community. This trash compactor services two dozen businesses downtown, so its relocation was no easy task—it required the cooperation and eagerness of many different town officials to get this done so expeditiously. All involved should be commended for a job well down. Construction of the new trash compactor pad is underway and it is said to be ready for use within 30 days, which will be early September. David Gorbach, President, Colonial Realty, who represents the property for David Pollack and the Pollack Family Trust, confirmed to me during a recent conversation that all impediments are cleared and the property will go on the market in September. He mentioned that final preparation for sale is underway and that they are 99% done. Through several conversations with Mark Barnhart, there is very strong interest in the property. Mark mentioned that he fields calls from interested groups nearly daily. This should make for a quick sale and redevelopment of the property. I wish to thank David Pollack and the Pollack Family Trust for their willingness to sell the property to enable us to once again enjoy the Community Theatre that sits so prominently and proudly in the center of our wonderful town. I also want to thank the Town of Fairfield for their help in quickly removing all impediments and working together so well in the best interest of our community. Lastly, I wish to thank all of you for supporting this effort— by signing the petition, by talking about it with your friends and through your ongoing encouragement. We all should be proud and we look forward to having The Community open once again soon. Best, Keith Rhodes mail@keithrhodes.com
