Thank you for signing our petition! We are now past 900 supporters, of like minded people who like us, want to protect our countryside, wildlife, and areas used by our communities, for present and future generations. We need your help though once again. Multi Million pound private Developer Mactaggart & Mickel, have submitted a 'Proposal Of Application Notice' to Inverclyde Council, proposing to build 75 private houses on our Greenbelt land named 'Kilmacolm Meadow' (West of Quarry Drive), in our village. This is the 3rd time they have applied for planning permission on this site, with application's in both 2004 and 2014. They were both Refused. They now think, and infact now do, have a better chance this time however, with changes to Scottish Government policy, that are telling local councils that Greenbelt land must be released for new 'Projected' housing need figures.That's came from a 'Model', called the Clydeplan2 in our area. Unfortunately, this isn't just happening in Kilmacolm, but all over Scotland. Mactaggart & Mickel's Public Consultation finishes this Friday 15th December 2017. They only gave us a 4 week Consultation Period, that we just found out about 2 weeks in. Not 12 weeks like another developer recently gave. What can you do? You can send Mactaggart & Mickel an Objection by email about their Proposal to; land@macmic.co.uk And copy us into your email for evidence, as this is Mactaggart & Mickel's consultation, and they don't need to share their data. There are two Brownfield sites in Kilmacolm, and numerous Brownfield sites in Inverclyde that should be developed on first, should there be any projected housing shortfall. Developing on Greenbelt land should only be a last option. Kilmacolm Meadow is of HIGH importance to our community. It is used by a large number of dog walkers EVERYDAY. It is a social meeting place, and is part of the fabric of our community. Children also enjoy playing safely in the Meadow away from traffic. Kilmacolm Meadow is extremely rich in wildlife with deer, buzzards, kestrels, owls, bats and many other creatures. Over 150 wild flowers and grasses grow here, including butterfly orchid, knapweed, scabious, yellow rattle, bird’s-foot-trefoil - all of which provide essential nectar and pollen for bees and butterflies. We are also helping raise awareness as much as we can, of current planning policy, and asking why volunteer groups like ours, are having to be set up all over Scotland, to defend our Countryside from predatory Developers, and the weaknesses in National and Local Policy? We have met a MSP, a MP, local councillors, Council Planners, and other groups fighting the same as we are. We will continue to do this, until our Meadow is safe, and helped get the message home to the Decision Makers, that our communities, countryside and wildlife are the very thing they should be protecting.
