The 6th District Advisory Board (DAB) voted 7-0, Monday, Sept. 12, to reject the developers' application to re-zone Delano green space to build apartments.  The project , if it goes forward will remove 40 mature shade trees  increase traffic on quiet residential streets.  DAB members said they voted against the project because of the destruction of 40 mature trees, overwhelming neighborhood opposition, and because the proposed 'infill' is not affordable housing for those living in the neighborhood.

The DAB's action is a recommendation to the City Council.  The Wichita Mayor and City Council will decide the zoning issue at their upcoming meeting, Tuesday, September 20.

What you can do to help:

1. Send respectful emails to Mayor Brandon Whipple and all City Council members.  Ask them to please vote to reject the staff recommendation and to reject the rezoning application.  Ask them to take action to remove the Delano green space from the City's list of available properties for sale.  Ask them to designate the land officially as green space and park land.  The rezone request is case# PUD2022-00011.

2. Attend the Wichita City Council Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 20.  We will not be able to address the Council unless they should ask us questions.  But they will notice if we are there.  We will try to sit together and we will have "Delano" stickers for folks.  The Council meeting starts at 9AM.  You can park in the City lot and get your parking stubs validated so you won't have to pay when you leave.  See me and I can help you with this and show you where to get it done.
