Petition to Save Our Community Pool

To Banyule City Council and Relevant Authorities,

We, the undersigned residents, families, and supporters of our community, urgently call on you to protect and preserve the aquatic facilities at Olympic Village Leisure Centre—a vital public asset that serves as a hub for health, recreation, safety, and social connection.

Our pool is more than just a place to swim. It is:

 A safe and inclusive space for children to learn life-saving water skills.
A cooling refuge during increasingly hot summers.
A gathering place that strengthens community bonds.
A facility that is local and welcoming to encourage use by marginalised and disadvantaged members of our community.

A facility that supports physical and mental wellbeing for people of diverse ages, backgrounds and abilities.
The proposed closure and continuing neglect of our pool threatens to undermine these essential benefits. We believe that every community deserves access to safe, affordable aquatic facilities.

In line with Banyule Council’s 2041 ‘Shaping Our Future’ priorities, we urge you to:

1. Commit to keeping all aquatic facilities at Olympic Leisure Centre open and fully operational.
2.  Allocate funding towards maintaining and improving Olympic Leisure Centre into the future.
3. Strongly advocate as a matter of urgency to the State and Federal governments to invest in Olympic Village.
4. Engage and consult with the community transparently and respectfully in all decisions affecting the pool.
