The issue

Hundreds of parking spaces used by the Central Coast Athletics Track are at risk of being permanently removed.

With 1,000 people attending athletics carnivals, where will they park?

A proposed State Significant Development for seniors housing at Mingara would build on the grassed area beside the track, land that has supported event parking for over 25 years.

These 600 grass spaces are not "spare space" for development. They are the overflow capacity that allows school carnivals, regional championships, Friday night competitions and major events to operate safely.

The proposed “replacement” parking is not equivalent. It is less parking spaces and located 400 metres from the track or absorbed within an already heavily used Mingara car park servicing the club, hotel and surrounding facilities.

The Athletics Track depends on the current grass parking to operate effectively.

If this parking is removed:

  • Less people will be able to attend this regional athletics track
  • The future development of Central Coast and NSW Athletes will be impacted when they are unable to easily access the field or attend regional carnivals.
  • Families and young athletes will be forced to walk long distances to reach the track
  • Disabled parking bays essential for inclusive sport will be reduced
  • Athletes with disabilities will face new and unacceptable barriers
  • Bus parking for school carnivals and regional events will be reduced
  • Overflow parking will spill into surrounding streets, increasing congestion and safety risks

This is not a minor inconvenience. It is a direct reduction in access to a publicly funded regional sporting facility relied upon by thousands of local families.

The Central Coast Athletics Track supports grassroots participation, elite athlete development, school competitions and inclusive sport for people of all abilities.

Without adequate parking, its capacity to function as a regional facility is undermined!

Once this parking is gone, it is gone.
