I moved to North Finchley because of its lovely tree-lined streets and country feel. This area is a haven for families, with many standard homes already converted into flats to accommodate the growing population. However, the proposed high-rise development in Lodge Lane Carpark threatens this peaceful atmosphere.
- Sadly Regal/Arada were granted planning permission for this dreadful development in June 2025, however that doesn't stop us from continuing to express our collective displeasure about the disaster about to befall our local area.
- This is a busy Carpark - one of the few remaining in North Finchley. It is used by local business workers, their customers and as a drop off point for the adjacent Northside School, losing the car parking would be a disaster for the high street. The importance of this car park could be easily verified by the most cursory investigation, the development will remove 222 parking spaces and replace with just 80. Whilst the reduction of car use is an admirable aim, we feel that it's disasterous to remove car parking before reducing car usage.
- This site sits right next to Northside School which is full of young children, they will be subjected to a number of years of noisy, dusty building work which will mean keeping windows closed, this will make conditions unbearable during the Summer. On completion the school will have loads of new residents right on their doorstep with attendant possible safeguarding issues.
- The development is for 98 luxury flats - by definition the opposite of affordable housing which is what is needed. There is no affordable housing included at all in this development.
- The proposal includes a small Bowling Alley and Cinema, these are intended to replace those that are planned to be taken away as a part of the GNLP development (Hollywood Bowl and Vue Cinema). This proposal is in no way a replacement for those 2 valuable community leisure facilities which are used by young and old alike from a large cachement area in North London and even further afield, mainly due to it's ample free parking provision. As locals will no doubt be aware Hollywood Bowl is much more that just bowling, it includes amusements and dining which just won't be possible on the Lodge Lane site.
- High-rises will drastically change our community's landscape and potentially lead us down the path of becoming another dystopian Colindale - an area now characterized by overcrowding and loss of green spaces due to similar developments.
- North Finchley is not just a postcode; it's our home. It's where we've chosen to raise our families, build memories, and enjoy life away from the hustle-bustle of city centers. We must protect it from becoming another concrete jungle.
- According to data from London City Hall (2018), high-rise buildings can lead to increased traffic congestion, strain on local amenities like schools and hospitals, and reduced air quality due to less open space for trees that absorb carbon dioxide.
