SAVE ORION OAKS DOG PARK!
Help Us Preserve the Natural Beauty and Rustic Charm of Our Beloved Dog Park!
We are asking Oakland County Parks to reconsider the proposed design changes to Orion Oaks Dog Park and preserve the park we know and love!
Orion Oaks Dog Park is not just another dog park. It is a truly special place that many consider the best dog park in the area. Its beautiful wooded trails, spacious fenced areas, and peaceful, rustic atmosphere make it feel like a little piece of Northern Michigan right here in our own community.
For countless dogs and their owners, this park is part of their daily lives. It’s a place where dogs can run, explore, and socialize while their owners enjoy exercise, fresh air, friendships, and the beauty of nature.
Unfortunately, proposed changes threaten to take away much of what makes this park so unique.
Our concerns include:
● Paving and additional concrete: Replacing natural areas with paved surfaces would take away from the rustic, wooded environment that makes Orion Oaks so special.
● Smaller fenced areas: Reducing the size of the existing dog areas would limit the open space dogs currently enjoy and make it more difficult for owners who walk the park’s perimeter for exercise.
● A proposed water feature: We have serious concerns about sanitation, ongoing maintenance, and the potential removal of trees to accommodate this addition.
● Loss of the park’s natural character: We don’t want our beautiful, nature-filled dog park transformed into a more urban-style park with unnecessary structures and concrete. It’s going to be changed into just another “City” park.
● Lack of community input: Many regular park visitors were unaware of the recent meeting regarding these changes. We believe the people who use and love this park deserve a meaningful opportunity to have their voices heard before major decisions are finalized.
We are not opposed to maintaining or improving Orion Oaks Dog Park. We simply believe improvements should preserve, rather than destroy, the very qualities that make it so wonderful.
Why spend money drastically changing a park that is already loved by so many? If there is a desire for a more modern dog park with paved areas and water features, perhaps those amenities could be developed at another location rather than changing this one.
OUR REQUEST
We urge Oakland County Parks to pause the proposed design changes, listen to the regular park users, and reconsider any plans that would reduce the park’s open space, remove trees, or compromise its natural beauty and rustic charm.
Once these natural spaces are altered, we may never get back what makes Orion Oaks Dog Park so special.
Please sign this petition to help us protect Orion Oaks Dog Park for our dogs, our community, and future generations of park visitors.
KEEP ORION OAKS DOG PARK NATURAL! KEEP IT SPACIOUS! KEEP IT THE PARK WE LOVE!
