SAVE ONTARIO BIKE LANES

The Issue

Like many other residents of Toronto, I hold a strong personal connection to the Bloor Street West bicycle lanes. For years these lanes have provided a safe commute for hundreds of thousands of cyclists, including myself, who rely on them daily. We've seen a dramatic reduction in fatalities along the stretch since their installation, testifying to their critical importance.

Unfortunately, Doug Ford's conservatives aim to dismantle these precious spaces. Their specific focus? The Bloor Street West lanes, a major arterial lane utilised daily by cyclists. They also just so happen to run along the same street Doug Ford himself uses on his daily commute. Coincidence? Unlikely. Ford aims to use massive government overreach to not have to look at or interact with cyclists. What makes these lanes outstanding is their decade-long planning, extensive testing, and municipal funding. The provincial government should have no say in what happens to these bike lanes.

Doug Ford FAILED to win in his campaigns for mayor. Do not let him bully our ELECTED Mayor Olivia Chow into destroying essential infrastructure that took over a decade to plan.

Removing these lanes will not only disrupt the day-to-day activities of countless cyclists, but potentially put lives at risk. Any attempt to eliminate these bike lanes could lead to an increase in accidents and insurance premiums for drivers. We have had a significant drop in casualties along the entire stretch of the Bloor bike lane since its inception. This positive impact is undeniable and we shouldn't be taking a step backward.

We urge Doug Ford to recognize the critical importance of these lanes: for the environment, the community, and for the safety of all. Respect and maintain our eco-friendly commuting options, don't demolish them. Please sign this petition to stand against the removal of bike lanes and to put the safety and lives of Ontario's cyclists first.
