Homeopathy Heals Me

Jul 31, 2016 — (Message from Campaigner in Glasgow)
Please help us save beds and right to access NHS Holistic Care. We have under 100 days to save this vital service. There is a threat by the Health Board to close in-patient ward at the Centre for Integrative Care (Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital)

Greater Glasgow & Clyde Health Board at their Board meeting on 28th June 2016 voted to proceed with the steps that are required to close all the remaining in-patient beds at the NHS Centre for Integrative Care at the Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital in Gartnavel Hospital Complex.

The hospital offers support for some of the most seriously ill people in Scotland and sometimes those living further afield, who have exhausted all other NHS treatment options, as well as those who can clinically benefit from access to NHS holistic treatment.

These patients will have nowhere else to go should this hospital ward close due to further cuts to services and will directly affect the quality of life of the patients who depend on this essential service.

The hospital cares for people from throughout Scotland and occasionally beyond, with long-term chronic, often incurable, life-limiting, some with multiple health conditions. This is the only holistic hospital of its kind in the UK with access to in-patient beds and one of the main reasons it has achieved such successful outcomes.

We would be very grateful if you could help increase awareness of this situation by contacting the decision makers and in the strongest terms showing your opposition to these plans.

Integrative medicine is the blending of conventional care approaches along with a wide range of various other holistic methods such as acupuncture, homeopathy, mindfulness, dietary methods and a range of courses to help people to better understand, accept, self-manage their condition, being safe, cost and clinically effective.

Please help us to oppose the decision to close the in-patient unit by writing urgently to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and the Cabinet Secretary for Health who would have the power to intervene on our behalf. They have the authority to call a moratorium which would then pause the health board’s closure plans or they could actively intervene and give the hospital national or ring-fenced funding which would then secure its long-term future. You can send the same email to everyone.

Regardless of where you live in the world please write and show your objection to these plans and show your support of the benefits of this unique model of healthcare that is delivered at the NHS Centre for Integrative Care and the need for continued access to holistic care within the NHS. Ask these decision makers to intervene and invest in this hospital to ensure its long-term future, as ultimately the decision is in their hands.

Shona Robison: Cabinet Secretary for Health:

Aileen Campbell: Public Health Minister:

It is also important to write to all the other various party shadow health spokespeople as they will then be able to put pressure on both the Health Board and Government, will also be able to ask the pertinent questions and can help further by giving us cross-party political support.

If living in Scotland please help further by also informing all of your local MSPs of these plans. Each person in Scotland has 8 MSPs who represent them, a constituency MSP and 7 MSPs from various political parties on the regional list. You can find the MSPs for your local area by contacting your local library or by submitting your postcode into the Scottish Parliament website.
