Please help!!!

As part of their new redevelopment plan, the Village of Itasca has identified our homes on the northeast side of Medinah for demolition.  Rather than preserve the beauty and nature of this unique community, the village wants to build a class A industrial park, which includes up to 20 warehouses, where our 148 homes are located and annex the land to Itasca. They already hired an expert, Transwestern Development Co. (Developer), to acquire our land. All of this was decided behind closed doors, of course, without our knowledge or public notice. 

What they are not realizing is that they are taking away homes from real people who have made this place a home. Some of us have lived here for 20 years while others for over 50 years. We grew up here, we started our families here, we raised our children here, we have put our heart and soul into this beautiful community. Now, because of greed and corruption, someone decided to take away all of that from us behind our backs. We will lose homes that we worked so hard to buy.  Our children will lose the only home they know. Our children’s grandparents will lose their home that they were supposed to live peacefully in for the rest of their lives. We will lose neighbors that are like family to us.  No family should have to be uprooted in order to make room for corporations when there are empty warehouses in the area and non-residential land available to build.  The corporation that is behind this will not only tear down everything that is in their way including the beautiful trees that have been here for over 100 years, but they will also destroy homes for animals that find shelter in Medinah.  What is going to happen to the Medinah Wetland Restoration area, Meacham Creek, mature trees, green space and multitude of wildlife that will also be affected? Will it also be replaced by concrete just like our homes?

Medinah is also home to the first to be built, and oldest surviving house, in Northern DuPage County.  The beautifully restored Meacham House, located on Medinah Rd, was the original home built in the early 1840s that started this beautiful community.  It was built by George W. Meacham, whose family was the first settlers of this area in 1833.  At the time, this area was called Meacham's Grove.  The official preservation organizations deemed this house historic.  Why would we allow developers to destroy piece of history?   

Please please help us save our beautiful neighborhood Medinah Terrace by signing this petition and calling the Itasca Village Planner at (630) 228-5631 to voice your opposition.

You do not have to live in Medinah to sign this petition as the proposed plan would affect all of us. Think about the lives that will be destroyed, the additional traffic that this project will create, pollution, reduced tax revenue for our schools (due to annexation to Itasca) and the destruction of animals and nature just to name a few. 

However, none of this needs to happen. There is plenty of other non-residential space in the area that can be turned into an industrial park. 

We need your help now. Please sign this petition and stand behind regular, hard-working families just like yours and against big corporations and their greed.
