Save Mass Effect and Dragon Age — EA, Let BioWare's Legacy Live On!
The Issue
On October 21, 2026, the gaming industry lost one of its most influential development studios.
After more than three decades, BioWare is closing its doors, and development of the next Mass Effect game has been cancelled.
For millions of gamers around the world, this marks the end of an era.
BioWare wasn't just another game developer. It helped redefine storytelling in video games.
From Baldur's Gate and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic to Dragon Age and Mass Effect, BioWare created worlds that players didn't simply explore. They became part of them.
We remember our first journey aboard the Normandy. The difficult choices we made as Commander Shepard. The companions who stood beside us against impossible odds.
We remember Ferelden, Kirkwall and the Inquisition. The friendships, betrayals, sacrifices and unforgettable moments that made Thedas feel alive.
These weren't just games. They were experiences that stayed with us long after the credits rolled.
And now, their future is uncertain.
We understand that developing AAA games requires enormous financial investment. We understand that Electronic Arts must make business decisions.
But cancelling a project and closing a studio should not mean condemning two beloved franchises to an indefinite future of inactivity.
If Electronic Arts no longer intends to invest in Mass Effect and Dragon Age, we believe these franchises deserve the opportunity to continue elsewhere.
What we are asking
We, the undersigned, call upon Electronic Arts to:
- Explore selling or licensing the Mass Effect and Dragon Age intellectual properties to an established game developer or publisher capable of continuing these franchises.
Prevent these beloved franchises from remaining dormant indefinitely by considering serious proposals from interested developers. - Give former BioWare developers and creative talent an opportunity to contribute to future projects, preserving the storytelling traditions that made these games special.
- Provide transparency about the long-term future of Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
Studios with established experience in ambitious, narrative-driven RPGs could potentially offer these universes a new beginning.
We are not asking Electronic Arts to give away valuable intellectual property for free.
We are asking Electronic Arts to consider giving these franchises a future rather than leaving them behind.
Millions of fans have invested years of their lives in these worlds. Their stories, characters and creative achievements deserve more than an uncertain ending.
BioWare may be closing, but the legacy its developers created deserves to survive.
The Normandy deserves to fly again.
The world of Thedas deserves more stories.
And future generations deserve the opportunity to experience the magic that made BioWare legendary.
If you believe Mass Effect and Dragon Age deserve a future, sign this petition and make your voice heard.
Save Mass Effect. Save Dragon Age. Save BioWare's Legacy.
