Hi all, Phil Demers here - and I need your help. More importantly, Canada's captive whales and dolphins need your voice NOW! Tomorrow at 5 pm, Tuesday, June 20, the Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans will vote on whether Bill S-203, the Ending the Captivity and Whales Act, will proceed to the final stage in the Senate for a vote. If adopted by Parliament, S-203 will phase out the captivity of all cetaceans in Canada, with an exception for rescues. You can watch here tomorrow: https://sencanada.ca/en/committees/POFO/noticeofmeeting/459115/42-1 Outrageously, despite hearing compelling scientific evidence of cruelty from marine biologists, it looks like the committee will almost certainly recommend to the Senate not to proceed with even an up or down vote on Bill S-203. We know this because the committee is scheduled to review the report, but there is no vote scheduled on the bill. This means that the current sponsor, Senator Murray Sinclair, will not even have the chance to make minor amendments, including that S-203 would not affect the Aboriginal right to export narwhal tusks. No vote on the welfare of Canada's whales and dolphins. This is exactly what Marineland and Conservative Senate Whip Don Plett - the bill's main opponent - want to happen. Which is where you come in. Because the Senate has the power to reject the committee's recommendation and do what is right for Canada's captive whales and dolphins, I ask that you please do four things right away: Write to Canada's senators asking them to proceed with Bill S-203: https://e-activist.com/page/10721/action/1?ea.tracking.id=twitter Spread the word on social media by retweeting me at @walruswhisperer: https://twitter.com/walruswhisperer/status/876826782535757825 Retweet the bill's original sponsor Senator Wilfred Moore, to ensure his tweet continues to dominate #cdnpoli, so that journalists take note of what is happening: https://twitter.com/SenWillyMoore/status/876593075304501249 Post these links on Facebook and ask your network to spread the word. Let's fight for Canada's whales and dolphins by urging Parliament to pass Bill S-203 as soon as possible. It's the right thing to do. Much love, Phil Demers
