Lynbrook is removing Spanish, French and Chinese level 4 language classes and phasing out its Japanese program entirely. Lynbrook students are extremely disappointed in the district for this decision. Everyone who is in the Lynbrook language programs will be unable to continue the regular progression of their classes. Along with that, the Japanese teacher and students will lose their program and also students will face not having level 4 in their respective languages. The additional impact on Miller middle school students will mean they may not have access to the languages they're taking right now.

If the change is not reverted this will permanently hurt the learning of everyone in the language programs and permanently damage their high school trajectories.

We have until the end of this year to revert this change. It will begin to be integrated in the 2024-25 school year where Japanese 1 and level 4 of all languages will not be offered. From there, each year will remove one more level of Japanese. so changes must be made by 2023-24. Immediate action and pressure are needed to make the change.
