Dear President Biden, 

We ask for laws that save lives. 

In your most recent State of the Union speech, you spoke to and for the family of Tyre Nichols: asking us, as a nation, to consider the ways in which we owe ourselves a police force we can trust. “It’s up to us, to all of us,” you said: and so I write this letter because, while I certainly agree that saving lives from unjust violence is a call to arms we all must answer, the upcoming 2024 presidential election means it’s up to you to ensure that the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is revived amongst your campaign’s promises to ensure a stronger, safer, America.

I’m writing on behalf of over 148,000 people who signed our Change.Org petition supporting the passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. We don’t care that this bill was drafted three years ago: we care that it becomes part of your presidential campaign platform. We care that it becomes part of the conversation we’re still having about police reform; part of the conversation that you, as our President, need to establish as paving the way forward into our nation’s future. 

Please make a special request (as is lawful) that a member of Congress reintroduce the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to Congress.

Please take a look at the thousands of names on this petition supporting the passage of a law that could save lives. Please let that guide you as your administration looks ahead to the White House race of 2024. What we’re asking for is a promise that, if elected, you’ll see the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act passed: that you’ll rally our leaders past their partisan politics and give law enforcement the real training they need; hold them to higher standards, help them to succeed in keeping ALL of us, as an entire American community, SAFE.
