The Hickman County proposed Resolution 22-34, seeks to take American Rescue Fund dollars away from a much-needed water system project and reallocate the money to the Water Authority of Dickson County.
This resolution seeks to take funds away from a much-needed project to repair the leaking water system serving Centerville.
These dollars would instead be used to fund an unnecessary project to connect the East Hickman schools to the sewer system operated by WADC.
The Hickman County School Board has not requested this new and expensive ($2.5MM) project.
This proposed resolution falsely claims that the current wastewater system for the schools needs to be replaced because the facilities are not achieving compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
This is simply not true!
According to TDEC officials, the current system shows zero signs of degradation or failure.
This proposal is not to help Hickman County solve a current problem – it is an effort by the WADC and its supporters to firmly extend its presence in Hickman County and enhance its proposal to build a mega sewage treatment plant in East Hickman County.
A plant which will contaminate our water ways.
This is for the betterment of WADC’s own bottom line and that of its stakeholders, not for the benefit of Hickman County citizens.
Centerville’s water system needs attention now, but the school’s sewer system does not - these precious American Rescue Plan funds need to be carefully allocated to improve the lives of our citizens, not wasted on an unnecessary project primarily benefitting those outside Hickman County.
As you can see, we need you to help save Hickman County.
The resolution will be in front of the county commission at their next meeting on Monday, October 24, at 6 PM at the Hickman County Justice Center (106 College Ave, Centerville, TN 37033, USA).
The first half hour plus will be a public comment period where your voices can be heard.
We implore you all to show up and let your voices be heard.
Be sure to wear your Save Lick Creek shirt!
Between now and Monday, please contact the county commissioners to let them know why they should reject Resolution 22-34.
