Save Latin at Johns Creek High School
The Issue
Due to budget constraints, Johns Creek High School has eliminated its only in-person Latin teacher without warning, effectively shutting down the Latin program and causing damage to the feeder program at Autry Mill Middle School.
While administrators later offered a partial salary to retain our teacher, it was an amount she was unable to accept. As a result, the future of Latin I, Latin II, Latin III, Latin IV, AP Latin, Latin V, and Mythology is unclear.
Because enrollment in Latin classes has been increasing at Johns Creek High School, cutting this program harms overall academic development and eliminates a thriving study. This is not just a local issue; the minimizing of Latin and foreign language study threatens the wider network of foreign language students, classics advocates, and language programs across our state and nation.
We respectfully ask the Fulton County Board of Education and Johns Creek High School to reconsider this decision, to guarantee the preservation of in-person instruction for Latin I through AP, and to engage with the community's views before dismantling established programs. Stand with Latin students, parents, educators who will not let classical and foreign language education be pushed aside.
Sign this petition today to protect our student choices, our teachers, and save Latin at Johns Creek High School.
