Save La Sainte Union Catholic School – Protect Our Girls’ Education and Its Future

Please help us save La Sainte Union Catholic School in Highgate, London, from possible closure.

La Sainte Union is so much more than a school. It is a place where generations of young women have received an education built on faith, respect, discipline, kindness, academic achievement and strong moral values.

Today, the future of this much-loved Catholic girls’ school is at risk.

Why is La Sainte Union facing possible closure?

On 12 October 2026, Camden Council published proposals to consult on the future of four schools, including La Sainte Union Catholic Secondary School.

The Council has explained that falling birth rates, families moving away from London, declining pupil numbers and increasing financial pressures have left some schools with a significant number of empty places.

Because school funding is largely linked to pupil numbers, fewer pupils means less funding to cover the costs of running the school.

For La Sainte Union, the options being considered include:

Reducing the number of pupils admitted each year.
Forming a federation with another secondary school.
Closing the secondary school for Years 7–11 while retaining sixth-form education.
Closing La Sainte Union completely.
No final decision to close the school has been made.

On 20 October 2026, Camden Council’s Cabinet will decide whether to begin a formal public consultation. If approved, this would give parents, pupils, staff and the wider community the opportunity to express their views before any final decisions are taken.

Why this school matters so much

La Sainte Union has been part of our community for generations, providing girls with an education that goes far beyond examination results.

As a Catholic girls’ school, it teaches values that are becoming increasingly important in today’s society: respect for others, self-respect, compassion, responsibility, discipline, faith and integrity.

The school encourages young women to take pride in themselves, their appearance, their behaviour and their achievements.

Even something as simple as wearing a smart school uniform represents something important. It creates a sense of equality, identity, belonging and pride. It teaches pupils to present themselves respectfully and to understand the importance of standards and responsibility.

These are lessons that remain with young women throughout their lives.

There are limited opportunities for families in Camden who specifically want a Catholic girls’ secondary education. Losing La Sainte Union would mean losing an important educational choice for current pupils and future generations.

The impact on our children and families

For many families, this is not simply about losing a school building. It is about potentially losing a community, a trusted educational environment, friendships, stability and a place where children feel safe and supported.

As a parent, I have already experienced the heartbreak of seeing my daughter’s Catholic primary school, St Dominic’s, close in 2023.

My daughter currently attends La Sainte Union, and we are once again facing the possibility of losing a school that means so much to our family.

No child should have to experience repeated disruption to their education, particularly when they are settled, happy and thriving.

Our daughters deserve stability, continuity and the opportunity to complete their education in the school they know and love.

What we are asking for

We are calling on Camden Council, the Diocese of Westminster, the school’s governors and all relevant education authorities to work together to find a sustainable future for La Sainte Union.

We ask that every realistic alternative to closure be fully explored, including revised admission arrangements, additional financial support where possible, partnerships and federation opportunities that could preserve the school’s Catholic identity and girls’ education.

We also ask that parents, pupils, staff and the wider Catholic community are genuinely listened to and involved in decisions about the school’s future.

Financial challenges are real, but the educational, emotional, cultural and community value of a school must also be recognised.

Please help us protect La Sainte Union

Once a school closes, its history, traditions, community and the opportunities it provides cannot easily be recreated.

La Sainte Union has helped shape generations of confident, respectful and capable young women. We want future generations to have those same opportunities.

This petition is not about ignoring financial difficulties. It is about asking everyone responsible to work together and exhaust every reasonable possibility before deciding that closure is the answer.

Our daughters deserve to be heard. Their education matters. Their future matters.

Please sign and share this petition to help protect La Sainte Union Catholic School for today’s pupils and generations yet to come.

SAVE LA SAINTE UNION – PROTECT OUR SCHOOL, OUR VALUES AND OUR GIRLS’ FUTURE.
