Save Kure Beach's Boardwalk

The Issue

As you may or not be aware, there are discussions underway to widen and alter the iconic Kure Beach Boardwalk.  At present, the suggested changes would remove the Boardwalk as we know it, and replace it with a paved path which would likely become a paved extension the existing Atlantic Ave.

Kure Beach is known for many things by locals and tourists alike. One point that stands out above the others is how laid back, relaxed, family oriented, and undeveloped we are from other area beaches.  Our Boardwalk is an iconic, beloved, and longstanding fixture in Kure Beach and one we all hold dear.  Removing this and replacing it with a paved option is not something that Kure Beach residents desire and adamantly oppose.  This proposed plan would completely change the very landscape of our most wonderful community.

If the Council is looking for a long-term, lower maintenance plan, there are other options available that would not take away from the character of the existing raised Boardwalk - to include something similar to a Trex composite material.  This keeps the visual aesthetic of our iconic Boardwalk and minimizes the maintenance required.

We, residents, tourists, and friends of Kure Beach, respectfully ask the Town Council to immediately pause and reconsider this paved project, hold a special meeting with KB residents to hear our voice, and offer an opportunity for a Boardwalk Committee be formed to seek an alternative medium to this project - one that all of Kure Beach an get behind.
