Save Kenny Road's Small Local Businesses From Displacement!

The Issue

For decades, Kenny Road has been home to beloved small, local, family-owned businesses, including Honey Dip Donuts & Diner, Iacono's Pizza, and DeSantis Florist, as well as other longtime tenants such as HealthMarkets Insurance.

These are more than just shops — they are landmarks of Columbus’s history, providing jobs, traditions, and a sense of community for generations. Now, they are at risk of being demolished and displaced by outside redevelopment.

Unfortunately, the landlord fell into receivership due to internal disputes, and a court-appointed receiver has quietly packaged these properties for sale to developers — without providing tenants with notice or a fair opportunity to purchase the spaces they’ve occupied for decades.

If redevelopment moves forward, Columbus will lose:

  • Generations of family-owned businesses
  • Local jobs and neighborhood stability
  • Community identity and shared history

We demand that:

  • No redevelopment approvals move forward without full community input and public hearings.
  • The existing small business tenants on Kenny Road will be given the chance to purchase their properties or secure fair, long-term leases.
  • The City of Columbus prioritizes protecting local jobs, history, and neighborhood character over outside development interests.

✍️ Please sign and share this petition to let city leaders and developers know: Columbus stands with Kenny Road’s small businesses.

Columbus thrives when small businesses thrive. Let's stand together to save Kenny Road. Sign today to show your support for protecting our community and keeping Kenny Road's small businesses alive.

UPDATE:   We want to thank everyone for the incredible outpouring of support — your voices are being heard!

Thanks to your efforts, we are now in contact with members of Columbus City and kindly ask that folks hold off on emailing council members directly at this time.

Please feel free to keep signing and showing your support.  Every signature strengthens our message: Columbus stands with its small businesses.

Thank you 💛

After learning of the issue through this petition, my staff has made several attempts to set up a meeting between the owner of Honey Dip Donuts, Councilmember Remy and myself. We have been informed by the petitions author that they would like to have more information before meeting. Thank you to all the petition signers who took the time to be civically involved. It is great to see this level of support for a small business in our community. At this time, we will respect the wishes of the businesses.
