Dear supporters of  “Save Kalithea Cats – Every Life Matters”,

Three days ago we launched this petition and up till now an amazing number of 5,600 supporters have signed!!! – Thank you all so much for your support.

What have we achieved so far?

1. We received 5,600 signatures in only 3 days – Please KEEP SHARING and RE-SHARING to keep up the pace!!!

2. The topic was picked up by Greek media (realvoice995.gr, rodiaki.gr, e-rodos.com, The Morning/ Η ΑΥΓΗ etc.) – Today we were on the title page of “rodiaki”

3. We received Vast and united support from all Rhodian animal lovers, volunteers, animal welfare groups as well as from other Greek animal welfare organizations and animal welfare groups from all over Europe.

4. Michalis Tomasos (Vice Mayor of Rhodes) stated on Realvoice995.gr that he will try to figure out with the Department of Forestry of the Dodecanese how to get Kalithea Cats to stay where it is and finally legalize the site since it is important for the cats to stay in their home environment and the place is fully financed by donations from tourists from all over the world it needs to stay where it is. He also acknowledged the positive image on tourism since the cats are well cared for. Furthermore, he expressed the deep appreciation for the volunteers of Kalithea Cats as well as for all volunteers active in animal welfare on Rhodes.  If it is not possible for Kalithea Cats to stay where we are, they will try to find something nearby and help us move. He emphasized that the administration of Rhodes is responsible for strays and wants to help.

So, all in all very promising but so far these are just words and we have to watch carefully what will really happen. Until there hasn’t been found an official solution for Kalithea Cats, our little paradise is not safe yet.
