Faced with the threat of compulsory purchase, the landowner has capitulated and sold the land to our neighbours at Worcester College. Finally, the Jericho Wharf has a responsible owner. 

This is the fruit of years of patient and professional work by the Jericho Wharf Trust. It was the JWT that in 2024 initiated the campaign for a compulsory purchase of the site, which the City Council finally agreed to in March 2026. At the same time, the Trust has been having very productive discussions with Worcester College on their potential purchase of this neighbouring land.

Over this period, the owner, Cheer Team, has been persistently evasive, clinging to the site in the hope of realizing a large profit. But faced with the looming compulsory purchase, the Hong Kong-based company finally conceded and on July 27 sold the site to the College.

The next step will be a rigorous process of community consultation on how this historic site could be developed, both in the interests of the College and of the people of Jericho and of Oxford as a whole.
