Dear Supporter

Thanks so much for your help. We have now surpassed 1,200 signatures, not just from Jericho but also from our friends in Rewley Park, Walton Manor, the rest of Oxford and beyond. This campaign has clearly touched a nerve. A huge weight of opinion agrees that it is high time to take this site out of the hands of speculative developers.

The campaign has also received close media attention, with coverage not just on local radio but also thoughtful pieces on BBC News and the Oxford Clarion, with the Oxford Mail and Times leading on the disappearance of Cornerstone.

Developer 'abandons' Jericho piazza redevelopment plans

Three weeks ago, the Trust wrote to the City Council to place on record our request for a compulsory purchase order (CPO). Since then, we have had an initial meeting with councillors who are now talking to officers as to how to take forward a CPO. We need your continued support to make this happen.

You will be interested to hear that the latest developer idea is to devote the entire site to student housing and exclude all community uses – maximising the profits and, contrary to planning policy, leaving the community centre in the cramped building in Canal Street. For some reason, this is described as a ‘compromise.’

Some of the questions raised by councillors and others have been addressed in our website Q&A which we are updating as the campaign proceeds.

Thanks again for your help, and the many positive comments. Please also encourage your friends to sign the petition at:
