With over 1,200 signatures supporting our petition, the impact of our message will be even greater if we each make an effort to share this story across the state and nation. Many of our government leaders, community organizations, educators, students, and citizens of all ages are unaware of the valuable resources preserved at the State Historical Society of Iowa.

Together, we seek to protect the rich legacy we inherited from multiple generations of Iowans, who believed in investing in the future. The public deserves ready access their own local, state, and regional history for educational purposes.

The State Historical Society of Iowa has been a public-private partnership since 1857 when the institution was founded. Generous donors gave priceless gifts and countless volunteers performed essential tasks in the library and archives, while researchers make valuable scholarly contributions based on the collections.

All of this intricately interwoven documentation should not be scattered to the wind if we can help it.
