Save Hundreds of Mature Trees in Burbank!

The Issue

The residence of N. Niagara Street in Burbank, CA were told by The City of Burbank that we had 2 weeks to prepare to have all the 100 year old Aleppo Pine trees removed from the front of our homes and the wildlife that lives in them!

The residents were not aware this was a even a discussion The City of Burbank was having about our street. We were not part of the conversation or asked to have a Town Hall to discuss the trees after recent rains brought 2 trees down, one of which fell on my vehicle.

Mature trees offer shade to our homes, sidewalks and to a diverse selection of animal and insect life in hot summer months, this helps us enjoy the outdoors and use less energy by not having to crank the AC in the day. They also absorb more carbon dioxide than smaller trees, preventing the buildup of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that is causing the crazy whether we are seeing all over the planet right now. Cutting these trees would have a drastic and negative affect on the environment and the wildlife of the area with owls, hawks, crows, opossum, squirrels, monarch butterflies, bees and millions of other wildlife and insects who call these trees home.

We have also spoke to many real estate agents who have said that residents can expect put to a 10% loss of value to their property with the removal of the mature trees, and the loss of the cohesive look of the "tree-lined street" we currently have.

We pay taxes to maintain the trees, and since the City of Burbank has outsourced the maintaining of the trees the look of the trees has become more bare and the health of the trees are at risk. We need to tell the City of Burbank to get an arborist to maintain the trees properly and stop deforesting our beautiful city!
