Update: New Letter from Cardinal Tobin

The Archdiocese is in possession of our petition with over 1,250 signatures and heartfelt messages. Recently, Cardinal Tobin sent out a general update regarding the "We Are His Witnesses" program. 

Although the language is a bit softened, the ideas remain the same. 

Word is that Holy Rosary will be "partnered" with Epiphany Church in Cliffside Park. 

According to the Archbishop:

"In some cases, communities may discern that a new configuration, including merger with another parish, offers the best path forward. Remember that a parish merger does not necessarily mean a church must close or that the unique culture and identity of a parish community will be irrevocably lost."

Note that Epiphany is a much larger church, with a parking lot available. In past closures, such logistics are important. 

We question the wisdom of partnering with a house of worship in a neighboring town. Why not have good relations with all the churches in the area? Or establish a sister relationship with a church overseas for evangelization and outreach? 

Otherwise, such maneuvers, in whatever language they are couched, can mean a soft slide into being merged, sidelined and eventually shuttered. 

For Holy Rosary, this matter necessitates participation, counsel, and guidance from our Parish Council.
