Dear Friends of Cudell Commons Park,

Today, October 25th, is the day that Frank Cudell died in 1916.  We honor his legacy as we work to protect Cudell Commons Park.  (Click here to take a look at a photo of Frank's tombstone located at Lakeview Cemetary today here.)

Yesterday was a phenomenal day as community gathered at Cudell Commons Park to hear the descendant of Frank Cudell, Gail Lundberg, speak to the vision of Frank's will and deed that granted the land of Cudell Commons Park to the City of Cleveland to remain as public greenspace forever.  Gail shared family photos and documents, and the community was able to see copies of Frank Cudell's 1906 Deed that were on-hand while gathering under the canopy of beautiful trees.

Please be sure to view the news article and two video segments on Channel 19's page, including the live broadcast of Gail's speech and another more in-depth news piece that aired at 10 pm last night.  Click here to see the Press Coverage!

You can also view for yourself a copy of the 1906 Deed of Frank Cudell here.

We know that this effort to protect Cudell Commons Park is not the first time this has happened.  In 1954, there was a plan to build a new Fire Station on the park land.  A group of over 100 community members gathered to protect the park, and the plans for the Fire Station were ultimately moved south to be located at Madison Ave.  Check out The Plain Dealer news article from 1954 here!

Lastly, we leave you with a litigation update.  The Settlement Conference was held this afternoon. Case did not settle. All orders and deadlines remain in effect. Hearing is scheduled for 10/31 at 1 pm.

We will keep you posted, and thank you so much for your support in valuing urban greenspace for the benefit of the whole community!  Please continue to speak out to leaders at the City and with CMSD and let them know the community needs this park!

Thank you!

Warmest Regards,

Friends of Cudell Commons Park
