Dear Friends of Cudell Commons Park!
The word is spreading, and the community is responding! Over 1,500 people have signed the online petition (1,514 at time of writing this!) to express their desire to protect Cudell Commons Park and prevent the park land from being cut in half, loosing basketball courts, and killing 40 trees that grow there. That 1,500+ online signatures does not include the hundreds of in-person supporters signatures we have also gathered! The community is declaring that is not okay for the City with CMSD to trade vital neighborhood greenspace for development opportunities in other neighborhoods.
We know that the community needs green space for the health and well-being of the school and community. We want a new Marion C. Seltzer school built as soon as possible, and don't understand why CMSD shifted gears in March 2022 to change their design plans to something radically different. The community deserves to know why, and deserves a school with greenspace and mature trees. Frank Cudell granted the community this parkland forever through his Will and Deed, and we need it to stay that way to increase climate resilience.
Currently we have 1,514 online signatures, with our petition having been read by at least 16,886 times, shared at least 512 times with more than 72 direct promoters!
Thank you for supporting our community and equitable access to greenspace! Please keep up the work and spread the word!
Sincerely,
Friends of Cudell Commons Park
