Hello all - Yesterday it was announced that HRM has lost against Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia's Supreme Court. Dal had filed for a judicial review of the decision to grant heritage status to 1245 Edward Street and Justice Peter Rosinski sided with the university. Dal has said they will not demolish the historic home for at least four months; their new President had previously announced that they will be breaking ground within 24 months for new student housing.

You can read Justice Rosinski's decision here (it's quite lengthy, FYI): https://decisia.lexum.com/nsc/nssc/en/item/522065/index.do

A sad day for heritage in our province, and as I worry for the future of our historic buildings, I hope that the city appeals this decision.

Thank you for your ongoing support and interest in this historic home. (Above photo taken one day before Dal took possession).
