Hello friends - it seems Dalhousie doesn’t want us to see the internal demolition they’ve been doing all summer at 1245 Edward- today they covered all the windows to hide the evidence.
The back deck wasn’t supported to cope with all the heavy demolition equipment, and has collapsed under the weight of the destruction. The workers got rid of one of the front verandah posts they broke off, and some shingles were scraped off the side of the house from one of the many dumpsters filled with the home’s interior (did anyone ever see so many dumpsters worth of “asbestos”?).
The temporary power lines have been cut, so the house remains once again with no electricity, running water or heat. Weeds flourish in the former gardens and back windows are left open to the elements (or possibly smashed out).
A sad day for Halifax, the climate, and for higher education as the final dumpster full of furniture, doors, wood and pieces of the house was driven away to the landfill. I asked workers why a nice old chair had to go to the garbage, and was told “get out of here,” before the foreman cranked his ghetto blaster.
