Hello all - Thank you once again for your support of this petition, with the goal of saving 1245 Edward Street from Dalhousie University's wrecking ball. Neighbours received a notice from the University this week advising that the asbestos removal as well as removal of all the soggy contents of the house, mouldings, toilets, sinks, furniture, kitchen cabinets, etc. should be completed by tomorrow (Friday). To date at least 6-7 dumpsters full of "asbestos" have been removed from the interior of the house. Curiously, nothing appears to have changed on the basement level, where the washer, dryer, etc. are still in place.
Here's the wet status today of the supposed "historic elements," one presumes (15-16 original doors, mirrors, mouldings, part of a fireplace grate) that the University says it is "preserving." Of course they've been rained on for several weeks, and who knows where they're going to be "preserved."
Once the temporary electricity is removed, presumably the house will once again be without lights and heat. Will they seal up the windows they broke? Stay tuned for more updates on the (non) demolition.
Meanwhile, keep writing deep.saini@dal.ca, the Dal Board of Governors, and our City Council and Mayor in support of the September 27 hearing and the heritage status being approved by our elected officials.
