Hello all - We've reported the illegal work that went on yesterday at the house after Volcano Construction received a stop work order from HRM. To reiterate, Volcano had illegally begun demolition work (they refer to it as "demo prep") since Dalhousie University still does not have an approved permit. The pile of "garbage" as they referred to it continued to grow: windows, doors, furniture, wood moldings, toilets, sinks, framed pictures, chairs, wall dividers, etc. Windows are covered with plastic and some have the telltale plastic chutes already hanging out through which the demolition company will expel air from the house.
Tomorrow is an important day. HRM officials will get our complaints that couldn't be followed up on over the weekend. The Mayor and Councillor Mason will have urgent requests to not issue the demolition permit, to review the infraction fully before any more work continues and to hold an urgent meeting of the city's Heritage Advisory Committee. It's a race now to have the heritage designation approved (which pauses demolition for 120 days). Trying to stay positive that these final efforts will make a difference.
You can call Sergio Grbac at HRM (902) 476-9210 and leave a message that this violation is unacceptable. It's a serious infraction to ignore a stop work order. Will the City fine Dal?
Or please ask the Mayor or a local councillor to pass a motion to have the heritage application expedited, including calling an emergency meeting.
I think of the families who celebrated so many life cycle events in this house - births, weddings, graduations, deaths. A well loved and well lived in house, with a lot more life left in it. Let's all give another push to save it.
Thank you for your support! Peggy and all the heritage supporters working hard in Halifax to save 1245 Edward and other properties.
