TVT changed the tenancy agreement at Highmoor Farm to a Grazing Licence. A Grazing Licence grants a grazier short term access to another’s land in order to graze their livestock. The farmer didn’t want to get near to the end of this arrangement without finding new homes for his Highland cattle and other animals and risk them going to slaughter. So he has already found new homes for the majority of them.
TVT has openly said that the farmer willingly sold his cattle because the farm is unviable. This is disingenuous, and angled to help TVT’s cause. It is only because the farmer cared about his animals that he moved them on - not because he wanted to. It is the arrangement with TVT which is unviable - it has made it so difficult for the farmer to continue as he was.
It is deeply regrettable that TVT has chosen to use such tactics in their determination to develop Highmoor Farm. Many people are saddened and dismayed by the loss of these loved creatures.
Let us hope and pray that the planning committee do the right thing on Monday and reject this planning application. There is so much at stake.
