SAVE HERSHAM CENTRE - SAVE THE CAR PARK

SAVE HERSHAM CENTRE - SAVE THE CAR PARK
The Issue
The newly proposed development plan for the Hersham shopping centre includes the Waitrose car park, the New Berry Lane car park (the pay-and-display car park next to the Waitrose), and the New Berry Lane access road. This proposal dramatically reduces parking spaces from 270 to 128, posing significant challenges for residents and businesses.
Losing the New Berry Lane car park threatens access to essential local services such as visiting your Waitrose, your local shops, your doctor, dentist, etc. Access to the local school would also be compromised, as New Berry Lane is used every weekday by hundreds of parents and children.
The developers claim that Elmbridge Borough Council encouraged the inclusion of these areas in the scheme. The council denies any such endorsement. We need to support our residents and businesses and clearly oppose the sale of the New Berry Lane car park and changes to the New Berry Lane access road.
Both the New Berry Lane car park and the New Berry Lane access road are currently owned by Elmbridge Borough Council. The ownership of these sites must remain public to safeguard the Hersham community’s interests.
By signing this petition, you are supporting many thousands of Hersham residents and their future by asking the council to keep the car park and access road in public ownership:
“We, the undersigned, emphatically oppose any sale, lease, or agreement that would transfer ownership or control of the New Berry Lane Car Park and New Berry Lane from Elmbridge Borough Council to the owners of Hersham Green Shopping Centre or their successors, as specifically detailed in HM Land Registry Title No SY616746.”
