Save Harry Todd Skate Park

The Issue

The skate park in Harry Todd park is in jeopardy of being demolished in favor of four pickle-ball courts. The building of this skate park was spearheaded by Ryan Wilmott, who passed away suddenly last year, when he was a teenager. This skate park means so much to so many people.

Demolishing this will directly impact the youth of the Tillicum neighborhood. This is a low income neighborhood and there are very few ways to access the skate parks in Lakewood proper from here. One of them being walking down I-5 or the active train tracks to get into town. The other ways would be to have access to a car and someone to drive, if they cannot drive themselves, or ride the bus which requires money to do so.

If this skate park is torn down it will remove a safe place for kids to skate. Skating on the streets is dangerous. Removing this skate park could mean more injuries to the citizens of Tillicum.

Now is the time to act. The demolition is slated to begin within the next year (2024-2025)! We only have so much time to get the parks department and city of Lakewood to listen. This skate park is a much needed asset to the neighborhood and should not go away!
