For many of us in Yakima, the Harman Senior Center is more than just a building – it is a sanctuary of community, support, and activity for our seniors and persons with disabilities. Essential services like health check-ups and nutritional counseling are also offered, ensuring the care of our Senior citizens.

This center doesn’t offer mere amenities, it offers lifelines.

Over the years, is has become a vital institution for countless people who depend on its resources for social interaction, wellness programs, and leisure activities as well as for physical fitness.

Closing the center would not only strip away these vital services but would also uproot the sense of community and belonging that seniors rely on. Considering the aging population of Yakima, with a significant portion of our community being aged 50 and above, the center’s existence is indispensable. Despite its importance, Harman Center is facing threats of closure due to budget cuts by the City Council.  This decision would strip Yakima's residents of a vital community resource.

We urge Yakima's city council to reconsider its budget allocation.
