The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens, strongly oppose the proposed reclassification of green belt land adjacent to Happy Valley Nature Reserve and ancient woodland for the construction of 160 houses by Taylor Wimpey.

This land serves as a vital haven and ecological corridor for local wildlife, including species such as barn owls, badgers, bats, foxes and various species of birds, some of which are protected under UK conservation laws. The destruction of this green space would
disrupt these natural habitats and sever critical pathways used by wildlife.
Furthermore, the proposed development would lead to increased traffic congestion in an already
burdened area, contributing to noise, air pollution, and road safety concerns. Hazel Grove is already
experiencing significant urban sprawl and overdevelopment, and this project would exacerbate these issues.
Adding 160 homes will put an unsustainable burden on local schools, GP surgeries, and emergency services, many of which are already operating at or beyond capacity reducing the quality of life for all residents.

We respectfully urge Stockport Council to reject this proposal and instead champion sustainable development that protects our natural heritage and prioritises the long-term well-being of the community.
