Petition updateSave Graham Woods at the University of FloridaWays You Can Help Save Graham Woods

Thank you for helping our Petition get to more than 930 signatures!  But still more work has to be done if we are going to save Graham Woods, so here are a few other ways you can help:

  1. Are you in Gainesville this week?  Then consider attending this Thursday morning's Lakes, Vegetation, and Landscaping Committee meeting and make public comments showing your opposition to the Project (or other tree loss project proposals, including a 42" Live Oak the committee previously asked to be saved at the Hamilton Center, only for staff to come back now saying it would be "too expensive").  At the committee's last monthly meeting, despite public outcry, they seem to have given preliminary approval to the Graham Woods Project, but the exact caveats are unknown because in yet another failure of transparency, draft minutes from that meeting have not been released to the public.  Although the current agenda for April 2, 2026 does not list the Graham Woods issue, your concerns can still be raised during the public comment period, and it is anticipated that the issue will come back to the committee again in the near future, so telling them what the public wants to see is crucial.
  2. Are you a student or expert in a field that can help evaluate Graham Woods' value ecologically, historically, culturally, or in any other scientific way?  If so, we need your help!  We need leaders in the fields of biology, botany, entomology, archaeology, habitat conservation, water quality, engineering, etc., to help us study and create reports showing the benefits of protecting Graham Woods.  Having data and published papers, or helping research ones that have been done in the past, will help strengthen our arguments for protection.
  3. Are you good at social media, or consider yourself an influencer?  We need to spread the word about our campaign and Petition more broadly to get more public attention to put pressure on UF to stop this terrible forest demolition Project.  If you want to help set up and manage our campaign's social media or a website, please contact SaveGrahamWoods@gmail.com to discuss what you can do.  Change.org also allows us to add "community endorsements" to our Petition page, so if you are a professor, celebrity, local business, student group, or any other supporter with clout willing to give a formal statement as to why you want to Save Graham Woods, we'd appreciate that too.

Thanks again for caring about the Graham Woods ecosystem at the University of Florida!
