I am deeply grateful for the incredible outpouring of support from our community. So far, more than 2,600 people have signed this petition, and your heartfelt comments from parents, students (past and present), staff, and neighbors have been powerful and emotional reminders of what Glades Middle truly means to this community.
I want to share an important update: following last night’s community meeting, we presented a new proposal to reimagine Glades Middle School as a K–8 campus. This model allows us to preserve our school while also aligning with the district’s growing interest in K-8 configurations.
This is very much a compromise we are making to keep Glades open, but it is one that comes with meaningful benefits for students and families:
- Elementary students would have their own separate building with safe, age-appropriate spaces.
- Middle school students would retain access to the facilities and programming they need: gyms, labs, electives, co-curriculars, and a campus built for adolescents.
- Both groups would benefit from strong magnet pathways in STEM/Technology and Cambridge/Gifted & Advanced Academics, maintaining the continuity our families already value.
- Our community would keep a successful, A-rated neighborhood school rather than lose it to closure or conversion.
Thank you again for continuing to stand with us. Your voices and your stories matter, and they are being heard. Please continue to share the petition, speak up, and email the School Board members to let them know this community supports the K-8 proposal, and more importantly, supports keeping Glades Middle School alive and thriving.
Together, we are redefining Glades in the best way possible.
