There's been an overwhelming response in the Geelong West community over the past few days to Save Our Geelong West Library. Thank you for your support so far. Our next big event is the Rally this Saturday 20th May at 9:30am at the Geelong West Library. This is a family-friendly event. Bring the kids, your dog, grab a coffee and bring your loudest voices. The Geelong Advertiser is coming along to take photos and it's a great opportunity for us all to gather and show our support for the brilliant Geelong West Library and its staff.

We also had some brilliant media coverage today on 774 ABC Melbourne. The Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong Cr Trent Sullivan told Virginia Trioli's Mornings Program that the Council wouldn't support any libraries being closed. Ms Trioli really held the Mayor to account, insisting that if the Geelong Regional Library Corporation is going to fund the library, it needs to be realistic about the amount of money it gives the Corporation so it can keep the libraries open functioning properly. Also, Ms Trioli interviewed CEO of Geelong Regional Libraries Corporation Ms Vanessa Schernickau, who apologised for the distress caused to the community following the library closure announcement and that she takes responsibility for naming Geelong West, Barwon Heads and Highton as the libraries that will close in the draft budget. Ms Schernickau also told Ms Trioli she had emailed the CoGG today to open a dialogue about the library budget to see what could be done.
