The Issue
I had my fair share of watching shows I love that have suddenly become cancelled. Unfortunately, this is one of those times when I need to spread the word, as well as the message.
The NBC television show Found has been cancelled today, along with a bunch of NBC shows that had so much potential, which is somehow due to the 'network's cutback on entertainment programming to accommodate the 180 primetime hours of NBA basketball next season', according to Deadline Magazine.
The show may also be shopped by Warner Bros. Television, one of the producers of the show, so I made this petition just in case the shopping doesn't come to fruition.
The show centers on Gabi Mosely and her team (Lacey, Margaret, Dhan & Zeke; Trent and Jamie sometimes), who dedicate themselves to find missing people who have been stepped on and overlooked by law enforcement, as well as the media.
Found means a lot to all of the fans and the viewers of the show, as well as resonating with a lot of people. It's more than just a series... it tells a compelling story as well. It explores the personal connection of missing person cases, as well as their willingness to use unconventional methods to find the forgotten. Not only that, but the series also digs deep into the traumatic past of the characters, such as Gabi's own experience as a kidnapping victim (as well as Lacey's experience) and Margaret's experience on trying to find her missing child Jamie as well as not giving up on her case.
It's a show that's all about the psychological impact of trauma on the characters, as well as their journey towards healing and finding justice, and it's interesting character development as well.
Not only that, but Found is an example of a "found family" trope, as it highlights the bonds and support between the team members as they navigate their struggles while working together to solve missing person cases.
According to Deadline (again), 'the show became NBC's top launch on the streamer [Peacock] until then, with its premiere episodes drawing 10.5M viewers across platforms in the first week.'
The state of broadcast television has been dying recently (in my opinion). Like this show, it didn't get a chance to thrive and tell its story from the beginning to the end, as well as find an audience. Instead, the executives always renew the shows that are either long-running or bland & have a decrease in quality, as well as shows that reuse the same storylines. (No shade to some, but it's all true.)
Found had so much potential (like the other shows that have been cancelled recently), and it had a lot of heart, emotional depth, and invested/compelling storytelling.
To all of the people who are reading, I know that some of you don't care, but to me, I do care, because this is one of the shows that had me invested since day one. And whether you like it or not, this petition is happening.
To everyone who watches this show, I believe that with enough fan support and recognition, as well as with a lot of love, we can all make this happen, as well as the network to reconsider the cancellation, even though it might not happen.
It's time for us to save Found. The show needs its own 'welcome home'.
